WDM school officials provide new details on staffer who died of COVID-19 complications – KCCI Des Moines

The West Des Moines Community School District informed families Monday that a staff member died due to complications from COVID-19.According to an email sent to families and staff, Indian Hills Junior High special education classroom assistant Jennifer Crawford died. She was 53. She had worked at the school since 2017.School officials said she had not been at work for several weeks.“I am deeply saddened to share with you that our friend and classroom assistant, Jennifer Crawford, died today from complications of COVID-19,” Indian Hills Junior High Principal Dr. Shane Christensen said in the email.The school district said it will provide employee and family resources for staff and students following Crawford’s death.Students and staff are encouraged to send sympathy cards to the school, which will then be given to Crawford’s family.School officials shared the following release Tuesday:”Our West Des Moines Community Schools (WDMCS) community is heartbroken about the unexpected death of Indian Hills classroom assistant, Jennifer Crawford. She died from complications of COVID-19 on Monday, Oct. 5, at the age of 53. She had not been at work for several weeks.Jennifer worked at Indian Hills since 2017 as a special education associate and was dedicated to the students and families she served.Out of respect to her family, including grown children who graduated from West Des Moines Community Schools, we cannot comment further at this time. We will be sharing funeral information to our Indian Hills staff and families once arrangements have been made.”
